The Grounds and Facilities

On driving through the gates visitors find themselves in 50 acres of stunning Sussex parkland.  Around the grounds are a range of sports fields which cater for football, athletics, netball, tennis, rugby, cricket, cross-country, hockey, rounders and golf.   There is also a fun adventure playgound with a variety of play equipment, including a zip wire.  The remainder of the estate is laid to superb gardens which are bursting with colour in the spring and summer months.

The Nursery and Pre-Prep are housed within a pretty Victorian walled garden known as the Secret Garden providing a spacious, safe environment to play.

The facilities at Handcross Park are excellent and offer the space, opportunities and technology children require for a first-class education.

The setting is truly wonderful.  Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the school boasts football, hockey, rugby, cricket and rounders pitches, a vast athletics area for track and field events, a six-hole golf course, adventure playgrounds and space - lots and lots of space.

A few years ago Lord Snowdon celebrated the opening of the magnificent building that bears his name and houses the Science and Technology Centre, Sports Hall, Library and classrooms. 1999 saw the addition of a new conservatory dining room with views over the gardens and grounds. In 2001 Duncan Goodhew opened the swimming pool with its Scandinavian log chalet exterior and our sports pavilion was completed in 2011. The Music School, one of the busiest departments in the school, houses individual practice rooms for the school’s many musicians and a large music studio.

Educational Resources are, as you would expect, of the highest quality. Each classroom throughout the school is equipped with an interactive smart board and computer. The Computer Suite, with its twenty work stations, forms only a small part of the whole school intranet, which is safely online 24 hours a day.

More important, however, than any of these facilities is the quality of our teaching staff. They are at the very heart of the school, offering a unique blend of qualifications and professionalism mixed with humour and an unmatched dedication to their pupils and the ethos of Handcross Park School.
