Music
Handcross Park is a wonderful environment for the young musician. Making music is encouraged from earliest beginnings in the Nursery and Pre-Prep, right through to Year 8 in the Prep School.
Children who desire to sing or play a musical instrument are able to receive tuition from our many skilled teachers and peripatetic instructors. There are both Junior and Senior Orchestras and Choirs directed by our excellent Head of Music, who has a passion both for her subject and for nurturing young talent.
It is evident from our regular musical recitals at Handcross Park, which include evening concerts and more informal lunchtime concerts, that many children have great musical ability and love to perform. Their talent can also be observed in their grades and competition achievements.
At Handcross Park we cater for music of all types and currently boast violin, brass, clarinet and saxophone ensembles as well as a rock and jazz group. Children taking an active part in the school’s music also enjoy performance opportunities with the Orchestra and Choir in places as diverse as the Menin Gate in Belgium and Llandaff Cathedral in Wales. Trips are organised to London theatres and productions recently enjoyed have included Sister Act and The Lion King.
