A solid foundation in the core subjects, particularly literacy and numeracy, is provided by class teachers using a range of resources and through a variety of approaches, with Spanish, PE and swimming taught by specialists. We are a very musical school and there are opportunities to learn an instrument under the tuition of specialist teachers.
We will challenge and support your child in order for them to achieve their best. We recognize every child is an individual and our small class sizes allow us to plan appropriately to meet each child’s needs, seek out individual talents and nurture them. We place a strong emphasis on Personal, Social and Emotional development, promoting children’s self confidence and self esteem in our caring, happy school.
We have designed systems of rewards to encourage the best from our children. When a child has achieved something special, whether for excellent work, extra effort, kindness or helpfulness, they are awarded a leaf, which is proudly displayed on our Tree of Achievement for all to see, and the child’s achievement is recognized in our weekly Celebration Assembly.
We pride ourselves on being accessible and encourage parental contact, from the informal chat at the patio door in the morning to the parents’ consultations each term to discuss progress and next steps. We also offer parents’ information evenings to explain the work that has been planned for the forthcoming term.
Handcross Park offers a full day for children with lots of interests and energy, and flexible drop-off and pick-up times for busy working parents. The teaching day starts at 8.40am and ends at 3.20pm but can be extended by attending Breakfast Club or staying to After School Club until 6pm, which includes tea. We also offer after-school activities to enrich children’s experiences which comprise of football, swimming club, golf, recorders, French, eco cadets, dance, multi sports, tennis and computers.
